Westview Community Organization Receives Grant from Park Pride

Atlanta, November 3, 2022 – The Westview Community Organization (WCO) is announcing that they received a grant from Park Pride in the amount of $4,400 to help complete the renovation of the Willard and South Gordon Triangles. The WCO’s Willard and South Gordon Triangle Project aspires to improve the community space by planting native pollinator-friendly plants to increase biodiversity, reduce maintenance costs, support local wildlife, and beautify the Westview neighborhood.

These publicly owned traffic triangles have been faithfully maintained by the WCO’s Beautification Committee through the efforts and financial support of its members over the past many years.  In partnership with Park Pride, the WCO’s Beautification Committee has worked to develop a revitalization plan for these triangles to be completed by Spring 2023.  This plan will include preserving the existing trees, transforming nearly all the grass areas into large planting beds, amending the existing soil, installing new planting bed borders, installing a landscape of native flowers and small shrubs, and replacing the current triangle signage.

Fundraising for the project is underway and phase 1 is scheduled to begin this Fall.  The WCO is proud to enhance this space with the support from their members and community partners and would like to give a special thank you to Atlanta City Council member, Andrea Boone, for her support of this project. Park Pride’s Grantmaking Program is generously supported by the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation, the City of Atlanta, and others.

If you would like to donate financially to this project, please make a donation through our website and note it is for the 'Triangle Project.' If you would like to volunteer for this project or donate materials, please contact us at Beautification@westviewatlanta.org.

Neighborhood improvements are on the ballot in the May 24th Primary election!

As a part of our Westview Votes program, your immediate neighbors will be checking in with you to answer in person any voting access questions you may have before the election.

In addition to statewide primary election choices, Atlanta residents will vote on a TSplost Referendum Renewal to fund “transportation improvements and congestion reduction." If passed, it would fund sidewalks in Beecher Hills, Westview and Mozley Park, and street improvements with some bike lanes on Donnelly, Ralph David Abernathy, Lee Street, Lowery, Hollowell and the SW Beltline Connector Trail. List of TSplost projects: tinyurl.com/tsplostprojects

Make sure to register to vote or check the accuracy of your registration before April 25th on the My Voter Page at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov In the coming weeks, you can also visit the My Voter Page to find sample ballots and early voting locations.

Questions about voting hours, voter ID, or voting as a returning citizen following incarceration? Find answers to the questions about voting at www.peachvote.com or call the Voter Protection Hotline at 866-687-8683 (866-OUR-VOTE)

    KEY DEADLINES AND DATES:

Initial mailing out of Absentee Ballots: April 25, 2022

Voter Registration deadline: April 25, 2022

Before 5pm on Election Day, you would have to travel to your correct polling place in order to cast a ballot. At the April WCO Meeting our Advocacy Chair Robyn announced the first community conversation under the Westview University banner. We recognize that it is a conscious decision to build community The University format will allow the WCO to leverage community subject matter experts to foster conversations on larger community advocacy points.

The topic for this month's conversation is "A Place for Everyone: How inclusion-based development can stop displacement, promote equity, and spread economic opportunity in your neighborhood" As a rapidly changing community Westview is consciously fostering a conversation around how we can, do and should develop our community.

If you have an idea for a future conversation or would like to help plan a future event please email Robyn at advocacy@westviewatlanta.org

    Westview Public Safety Update

    Hi Neighbors,

Please see the updates on a few issues we have from a public safety standpoint. We will review these & provide any additional updates at our next meeting 4/5 at 7pm.

If you want to get involved please let us know by sending an email to publicsafety@westviewatlanta.org. We need more residents to help out, so we can get organized & properly cover the entire community

    Thanks!

    Public Safety Survey

Please take the Police Reform and Public Safety Survey that is now available on Survey Monkey: bit.ly/2MWc4Vs. This survey is for residents & business owners in the City of Atlanta. It will enable all residents & those who work in Atlanta to express their issues & perceptions on public safety & police reform.

    David Mack Case

The leads APD had did not pan out. They are actively looking for new leads to help solve the case. Please continue to reach out to crime stoppers if you or anyone you know has any leads.

    Black Honda Committing Car Burglaries

There was an incident yesterday, and APD was trying to box in the black Honda. Some of you witnessed this as the Honda was speeding through the community. According to APD, it was not a chase or pursuit. They were just doing a form of box maneuver to try to surround the Honda with nothing but APD vehicles to get them to abandon the car, go on foot & get caught. This process included unmarked cars as well. These were probably the cars we all saw driving fast as well.

Unfortunately, the box maneuver did not work and they are still on the loose. The Honda is stolen and the plates on the car are not real which makes it hard for their radar & camera devices to catch them. However, APD knows who the person is now. They are continuing to search & find him. Please continue reporting this vehicle or any suspicious vehicle in the area to help APD.

Please keep valuables out of your car. They have been stealing laptops, tablets, purses, wallets, etc. The best way to deter them is to not help the criminals, so please do a double take before leaving your vehicle to ensure you have nothing valuable in your car, seen or unseen.

Westview Resident Questions for APD (Needed)

If you have any questions, you want to ask APD, please send them to publicsafety@westviewatlanta.org. I will be chatting with APD to go over concerns from the residents of Westview. Please take some time to think about your questions and submit them to publicsafety@westviewatlanta.org by the end of the day Sunday, 3/28.
